Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made significant statements during a television program. He announced that the winter tire requirement would soon apply to private vehicles as well.
Starting from December 1, 2024, winter tires will be mandatory for commercial vehicles. Minister Uraloğlu mentioned that this requirement would soon extend to private vehicles as well, stating:
- “Especially if there is a snowstorm, you cannot fight snow in a snowstorm. We see people stranded in America, Germany, and France.
- Winter tires for commercial vehicles were set to start on December 1. This decision was brought forward to November. Traffic congestion occurred because many vehicles didn’t have winter tires.
- From now on, we will implement the winter tire requirement on November 15. Soon, we will also apply this rule to private vehicles. This is a self-criticism.”
Additionally, it was noted that winter tire prices in 2024 range from 2,000 lira per tire, reaching up to 5,000 lira. With four tires, the total cost can be up to 20,000 lira. According to the regulations, commercial vehicles must comply with this requirement by December 1, 2024.
