Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend reciprocal tariffs on countries other than China for 90 days, negotiations between the European Union (EU) and the United States have intensified.

An EU official stated that they had proposed a mutual zero tariff agreement on automobiles to the United States.

The 25% customs duty in the automotive sector has been a challenge for EU countries. In a statement on the matter, EU spokesperson Roberta Metsola said they are already at the negotiation table with President Trump and have made an offer for zero tariffs on cars on a reciprocal basis.

Metsola also emphasized the need for increased engagement with the U.S. in trade talks.
