Competition Authority Launches Investigation into BİM, ŞOK, Migros, and Carrefour

In a statement made to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), BİM announced that two new investigations had been launched against various retail companies, including themselves, and their suppliers. Similarly, Şok, Migros, and CarrefourSA also reported that an investigation had been opened against them.
BİM Birleşik Mağazalar A.Ş. (BIMAS) stated, “We have been informed that the Competition Authority has launched two investigations against various retail companies and suppliers, including our company.”
BİM clarified that the opening of an investigation by the Competition Authority should not be interpreted as meaning that they are facing or will face any penal sanctions.
In their statement to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), they said: “The Competition Authority has informed us that two investigations have been opened against various retail companies and suppliers, including our company. The opening of an investigation by the Competition Authority should not be interpreted as an indication that the entities under investigation have violated the law or are facing penal sanctions, and any developments regarding this matter will be shared with the public in compliance with capital markets regulations.”
Investigations for Şok and Migros
Şok Marketler (SOKM) and Migros Ticaret A.Ş. (MGROS) also reported to KAP that the Competition Authority had launched an investigation against their company, along with several other retail companies and suppliers.
CarrefourSA Added to the List
CarrefourSA also announced to KAP, “We have been informed that the Competition Authority has decided to open an investigation into certain retailers and producers/suppliers in the fast-moving consumer goods sector, including our company.”
Impact on Retail Shares
The investigations into BİM, Şok, and Migros also had an impact on the shares of these companies on the Istanbul Stock Exchange. BIMAS shares fell by about 5%, SOKM shares dropped by approximately 2.5%, and MGROS shares saw a decline of over 5%.
