Is the new survival strategy of AK Party to break up the opposition alliance in Turkey?

It is no secret that the ruling party has been in decline for a while and since the last Istanbul local elections, in specific. There is no question the leader of the party who is also the President of the country is aware of this situation and most likely very concerned about the consequences to follow.

Talking about consequences, we could mention the unfavorable possibility for the ruling party (and the President, in particular) to lose next elections and the power they have been using for the past 18 years, almost.

Therefore, an experienced leader such as Turkey’s President cannot be expected to sit in his corner and watch developments take place, only. We all know he has always had B plans and even if not he has always been capable of developing new / alternative once all at once, when need be.

Since it must also be very apparent to ERDOGAN as well, that AK Party is in decline due to unfavorable developments in economy and foreign relations, as well as new parties to be established by some prominent politicians, once important and even founding members of the ruling party, the question is “What new strategies could the President of Turkey be developing to survive and remain in power?

Well, some opinion leaders comment leave alone developing such a plan, he has already put it into action. Based on opinions shared by same experts, the President’s new plan is very simple: “DIVIDE & SWALLOW”.

Based on same opinions, he is now targeting to break up the opposition coalition that won Istanbul and Ankara local elections which was a big blow against AK Party. To be more precise, he is up to “starting a discord between two rival coalition partners (namely CHP and IYI Party) which would lead to a split up between them” so that his prospects of losing the presidential elections in 2023 are eliminated.

The question at this point could be “What are the indications for this opinion if any at all?” Well, we could easily refer following as the answer to this question, to start off with:

– The President seems to have started using a constructive language on many occasions, as opposed to the harsh language he used to practice in the past, to criticize his opponents.

– The Ankara meeting of mayors recently organized by the President seems to be another step taken in this direction. The message given to the public could be (most likely is) “You see I am working in good terms even with my rivals /opponents. I have adopted a positive and constructive approach, now”.

Apparently, he must have been seriously warned (or has realized) that the harsh and belittling language he has been using against his rivals all this time does not work anymore and there is no other way to go, but change said language. Otherwise it is a possibility that his power will gradually decline until 2023 and the bloc he formed with his partner MHP will be defeated by the opposition bloc, resulting in the loss of the presidency – which could be a very unfavorable picture for him.

But he is wrapped up in so many problems that if he manages to overcome those problems and succeed to win the 2023 elections, he will no doubt deserve the title of the best politician ever in the world.
