Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş has revealed plans to build a cable car line that will pass over the Bosphorus Bridge to tie Altunizade to Etiler. The project, planned to be conducted in a build-operate model will not only be crucial for tourism but will also be an attractive touristic attraction.

Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş was responding to questions from the press following a meeting with Singapore’s Industry and Trade Minister Lee Yi Shyan. Topbaş was responding to questions regarding Prime Minister Erdoğan’s announcement yesterday that he will be building a huge mosque on Çamlıca Hill, when he revealed plans to build a telpher cable car system spanning from Etiler to Altunizade. According to Topbaş, they will also be building a connection to Çamlıca Hill, which is the location designated for the prime minister’s plans to build a mega mosque.

“This project was something we had conceived prior to the mosque project. In fact we first began work on the telpher transportation system four years ago. There are a number of firms and nations that have set-up extremely successful cable car systems. We want to present the project as a build-operate opportunity. The system will have the capacity to transport 6,000 passengers an hour,” explains Topbaş.’

BOTH TOURISM AND TRANSPORTATION

Emphasizing the importance of the cable car project for both transportation and tourism, Topbaş says, ‘It will be both extremely important and exciting to be able to cross over to a different continent by cable car. Those who cross over will be given a certificate.”
