President ERDOĞAN declares three-month state of emergency in Turkey

ERDOGANFollowing the failed coup attempt allegedly staged by Gülen supporters, Turkey has now declared a three-month state of emergency in the country. The announcement for was made by President ERDOĞAN on July 20th 2016

Erdoğan said “The purpose of the state of emergency is take steps necessary to eliminate the threat to democracy in our country, the rule of law, and the rights and freedom of our citizens, most effectively and swiftly”.

The decision came following back-to-back National Security Council and Cabinet meetings – the first since the coup – and Erdoğan made a statement saying the three-month state of emergency was being declared under Article 120 of the Turkish Constitution.
