5 million of the 30 million employees in Turkey work for the state

As of the end of last year in Turkey, the number of people employed is just over 30 million. More than 4.8 million of these jobs are in the public sector.

According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute, the number of people employed in the country is 30 million 141 thousand as of 2021. Currently, the number of employees in the public sector is 4 million 877 thousand 270. In other words, one out of every six people employed is in the public sector. 66.4 Percent of those employed in the public sector, i.e. 3 million 238 thousand 432 people, are in public administrations within the scope of the general budget.

The number of those working for Higher Education Council (Higher Education Council), universities and institutes of high technology is 305 thousand 447. In other administrations with special budget, there are 96,834 people as of 2021.

On the other hand, the number of employees in social security institutions has decreased by 837 people in 2021 to 42,578, compared to the previous year.
