MEDICINE PRICES TO INCREASE IN TURKEY

A member of opposition group stated that the fixed exchange rate set on the euro for drug purchases this year was 4.57 TL and the current exchange rate had reached up to 19 TL adding “There will be a 120 percent increase in imported drug prices.”

Noting that the economic crisis and the high exchange rate increase had led to deep problems in the health sector, Gamze TASCIER a deputy from CHP noted that there was a preparation for a 120 percent hike in the drug. Stating that the drug price decree was published in February every year in Turkey and the fixed euro rate to be used for pricing imported drugs was determined in that year, the deputy said, “The fixed euro rate for imported drugs was determined as 2.69 TL in 2018, 3.40 TL in 2019, 3.81 TL in 2020 and 4.57 TL in 2021.”

CHP deputy went on to say, “Today, the euro exchange rate has even seen 19.20. It seems that by the time the decree is issued, it will even exceed 25 TL. It is no longer an expectation that we will see extraordinary hikes in drug prices in such an environment, it has become a certainty. There will be a 120 percent increase in imported drug prices.
