A 38% increase in natural gas prices

The Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAŞ) announced that as of August, the wholesale price of natural gas used in residential areas has increased by 38%. Additionally, the price of natural gas used by free consumers with an annual consumption of up to 300,000 cubic meters, excluding those used for electricity production, has increased by 33.1%.
BOTAŞ published the tariff table for residential and industrial subscribers as well as the tariff for electricity production purposes, which will be effective in August, on its website. According to this table, as of August, the wholesale price of natural gas used in residential areas has increased by 38%, and the price of natural gas used by free consumers with an annual consumption of up to 300,000 cubic meters, excluding those used for electricity production, has increased by 33.1%.
There was no change in the wholesale price of natural gas used for electricity production and in the price of natural gas used by free consumers with an annual consumption of more than 300,001 cubic meters, excluding those used for electricity production.
The tariff for industrial subscribers has been set at 8,549 lira per 1,000 cubic meters for tier 1 and 11,380 lira for tier 2. The price of natural gas for electricity production has been announced as 12,000 lira per 1,000 cubic meters. The price that BOTAŞ will apply to distribution companies for residential consumers in August has been announced as 5,631 lira per 1,000 cubic meters of natural gas.
Natural gas prices are calculated monthly. The announcement on the institution’s website included the following statements:
“The wholesale prices of natural gas by our organization are determined and offered to consumers at the most reasonable level possible, taking into account market conditions, market price stability, the tariff-related decisions of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority, and changes in the cost elements such as procurement and operational expenses.”
