African heat waves to hit Turkey once again
This week, temperatures in Turkey are expected to be 4 to 6 degrees above seasonal norms. Meteorologist Murat Acar provided information about the expected weather conditions in Turkey this week. Speaking to AA, Acar stated that temperatures will be 4-6 degrees above seasonal norms throughout the week in the western and southern regions, while nighttime temperatures in central areas may drop below seasonal norms in the middle of the week.
Acar mentioned that the northeastern regions will cool down due to a cold air mass over Russia, and temperatures in the eastern part of Central Anatolia and Eastern Anatolia may fall below seasonal norms. He emphasized that throughout August, temperatures are expected to remain above seasonal norms, particularly in the southwestern parts of the country, where the Azores High will transport hot air from Africa.
August is Dry
Acar reported that no rainfall is expected across the country this week, stating, “August is passing dry, and we anticipate that the upcoming week will also be dry.”
Perceived Temperatures May Be High
Discussing the weather forecasts for the three major cities, Acar noted that a northeasterly wind will be observed in Istanbul for three days, but it won’t turn into a storm. He stated, “Temperatures in Istanbul will be 2 to 4 degrees above seasonal norms. We don’t expect any rainfall, but due to humidity, the perceived temperature might be higher.”
No Rain Expected in Ankara This Week
Acar stated that temperatures in Ankara, which are above seasonal norms, are expected to rise up to 35 degrees, with no rain expected.
Izmir 4-6 Degrees Above Seasonal Norms
Acar noted that temperatures in some districts of Izmir could reach up to 40 degrees, with the city experiencing temperatures 4 to 6 degrees above seasonal norms.
Meteorological data indicates that temperatures across Turkey have exceeded 40 degrees. In the Çine district of Aydın, the highest temperature was recorded at 42 degrees, while temperatures in the Gömeç district of Balıkesir and the Torbalı district of Izmir surpassed 40 degrees. In the Lalapaşa district of Edirne, the temperature was measured at 38 degrees, while in the Tuzla district of Istanbul and the Gölcük district of Kocaeli, it was 37 degrees. In the Harmancık district of Bursa, thermometers showed 36 degrees.
