Airplane skids off the runway at Sabiha Gokcen Airport due to heavy storm

A passenger plane landing at Sabiha Gokcen International Airport in Istanbul came off the runway due to the strong wind. No one was killed or injured in the incident, while the airport runway was closed to flights for 2 hours. Pegasus announced the launch of a necessary investigation into the incident. A statement from THY said flights had been halted until further notice.

A Pegasus Airlines flight from Sharjah Airport, United Arab Emirates, to Istanbul, veered off the runway at Sabiha Gokcen Airport after landing. The runway was closed to flights until 11.20 pm due to the incident, where there were no injuries.

The Governor made an announcement saying “the 164 passengers on board the aircraft have been safely evacuated and there are no casualties or injuries involved. Flights at Sabiha Gökçen Airport have been temporarily halted”.

Pegasus Airlines also released a statement about the plane coming off the runway saying;

“Our TC-CCK tail registered flight PC747, which operates Sharjah-Sabiha Gökçen flight, left the runway after landing at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport today. The safe evacuation of our passengers and crew has been provided. There were no casualties or injuries. The necessary investigation has been initiated and information on developments will continue to be given”.
