DRINKING WATER

American scientists have developed a device capable of converting water molecules in the atmosphere into drinking water.

According to the results of the research published in the journal *Cell Reports Physical Science*, the device, called Atmospheric Water Harvesting (AWH), can provide clean drinking water to billions of people experiencing water scarcity.

Nathan Ortiz, a member of the research team, stated that after capturing water vapor on the material’s porous surface, the water molecules are heated and turned into liquid form. He also mentioned that they have applied for a preliminary patent for the device.

Another team member, Sameer Rao, explained that they used a hygroscopic material with a metal-organic structure in the device, noting that hygroscopic materials absorb water very effectively.
