VEGETABLES FRUITS PESTICIDES

The suitability of vegetables and fruits for health seems to have been a serious topic of concern due to pesticide residues and other harmful substances. The country frequently encounters issues with pesticide residues, aflatoxins, and harmful insects in its export products, leading to worries that similar problems might exist in domestic produce as well.

Although the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry supposedly conducts inspections for both domestic markets and exports, the results of these inspections are typically not made public.

The improper use of pesticides and the continued use of some pesticides banned in Europe are exacerbating the issue. Problems encountered during the inspection of agricultural products are being linked to the rising number of cancer cases.

The Ministry has made it mandatory for certain products to keep a producer’s record book and use plant protection products with prescriptions. However, it is unclear whether these regulations are being followed. A significant portion of Turkey’s export products are returned due to high pesticide residues. To tackle this issue, more effective inspections, increased awareness about pesticide use, and the public sharing of inspection results are needed.

In summary, there are serious concerns about the cleanliness of vegetables and fruits in Turkey, and this issue is one that requires close attention not only from producers but also from the government and consumers.
