Security measures have reached the highest level in Ankara ahead of the NATO Summit, which will be held in the Turkish capital on July 7–8. Under the name “Operation Turquoise”, extensive security checks, inspections, and special operations are being carried out across the city.

The Ankara Police Department has started implementing a comprehensive security plan designed specifically for the summit. The operation includes increased controls at city entrances and exits, intensified inspections in nine districts, and the deployment of specialized security teams in designated NATO security zones.

Teams have been assigned to critical areas around the city, operating around the clock to monitor suspicious individuals and vehicles. Special operations units, motorcycle police teams, anti-narcotics and public security teams, along with plainclothes officers positioned at key locations, are taking measures along official routes and important areas.

Hotels, businesses, cafes, and entertainment venues expected to host international delegations and visitors during the summit are also being inspected. Authorities are carrying out additional controls against street activities such as illegal begging, unauthorized guides, and groups targeting tourists.

As part of the operation, police teams are also conducting targeted operations against wanted individuals. Those captured are being transferred to correctional facilities following legal procedures.

Ankara Police Chief Maksut Yüksek personally inspected security measures and instructed teams to continue checks in crowded public areas, parks, indoor and outdoor locations, cafes, and entertainment venues.

Within the scope of the operation, 39 teams and 450 personnel carried out inspections at 215 locations, 151 parks, and 120 businesses across nine districts.

Authorities also reported that 209 suspects detained during operations aimed at preventing terrorist organizations’ activities remain under police custody, with legal procedures continuing.
