BRITISH TOURISTS IN ANTALYA

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy met with members of the press at the Atatürk Cultural Center to evaluate the 2023 tourism data. Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy met with members of the press to evaluate the 2023 tourism data and share expectations and targets for the upcoming period. He stated that Turkey reached 56.7 million tourists in 2023, an increase of 10 percent.

Ersoy announced that the country sending the most tourists to Turkey was the Russian Federation with 6.3 million, followed by Germany with 6.2 million.

3.8 MILLION TOURISTS FROM THE UK

Minister Ersoy continued his statements by adding that 3.8 million visitors came from the UK in 2023. It is also known that there are tens of thousands of British citizens residing especially on the southern coast of Turkey.

INCREASE IN PER CAPITA SPENDING

Ersoy noted that the average length of stay decreased by 5 percent from 10.3 to 9.8 nights in 2023, stating, “Per capita nightly spending increased by 12 percent from $89 to $99. The average spending per tourist increased by 5 percent from $905 to $952.”

Ersoy also mentioned that Turkey’s total tourism revenue increased by 17 percent from $46.5 billion to $54.3 billion compared to 2022. Regarding the targets for 2024, he said:

TARGETS FOR 2024

Our goal for 2024 is to reach 60 million tourists and $60 billion in tourism revenue. We expect per capita nightly spending to increase to $106 next year, while the average length of stay is expected to decrease slightly to 9.7 nights.”
