Ataturk Airport can save Istanbul during an eventual earthquake

It was emphasized that the airport was closed to flights and two runways were broken earlier. However, it could be vital and play an important role in the event of a possible earthquake and at least one runway needed to be repaired.

After the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, it was reported that Atatürk Airport would be of critical importance among the measures to weaken the effects of a possible earthquake that would hit Istanbul.

Vice President of Airline Employees Union (Hava-Sen) said that Ataturk Airport would play a vital role in terms of delivering aid to the city by air and providing evacuations in the event of a possible Istanbul earthquake, for this at least one of the two broken runways should be urgently repaired and made ready for flight.
