Attention! Don’t Get Fined 993 TL – Gloves and Goggles Now Mandatory for Motorcycle, Bicycle, and E-Bike Riders

We understand “gloves mandatory” part has been removed from the regulation for electric scooters and bicycles (if we have grasped it correctly.. hopefully that is) “FOR YOUR INFO” (09.11.2025)
A new traffic regulation in Turkey is changing the way two-wheel enthusiasts ride. With the latest amendment to the Highway Traffic Regulation, motorcycle, bicycle, e-bike, and even tractor users must now wear protective gloves and goggles. Anyone caught without them faces a fine of 993 TL.
In Fethiye, where motorcycle use is widespread, local riders have already started shopping for safety gear. Motorcycle and equipment stores across the district have seen a surge in demand since the new rule was announced.
According to the Interior Ministry, this major amendment was officially published in the Official Gazette and came into effect on November 4, 2025. The rule applies not only to drivers but also to passengers — meaning anyone riding on a motorcycle must wear protective gloves and goggles just like the driver. Authorities say the goal is to reduce injuries in traffic accidents and raise awareness of road safety.
The change, made in Article 150 of the regulation, significantly expands the mandatory use of safety gear. From now on, riders of bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, and post-2001 T3-category tractors must wear helmets and protective goggles. The rule excludes three-wheeled cargo motorcycles and vehicles that are already enclosed.
This update marks a new era of traffic safety. Riders and passengers alike can no longer take to the road without helmets, gloves, and goggles. Inspections are expected to increase, especially in cities with heavy two-wheeler traffic such as Antalya, İzmir, and Istanbul.
Failure to comply will result in a 993 TL fine. Authorities emphasize that these measures are “not meant to punish but to save lives.” Experts highlight that using protective gear significantly reduces the risk of serious injuries, especially to the head, eyes, and hands. Research shows that wearing gloves can prevent cuts and burns during accidents.
In short, Turkey’s roads are entering a safer era. Helmets, gloves, and goggles are now essential life-saving gear, not just accessories. The Interior Ministry’s initiative aims to improve rider safety awareness and lower accident-related injuries and fatalities. Following these rules is one of the simplest yet most powerful steps every rider can take for their own safety and that of their loved ones.
