Automotive production increases by 25.5 percent in May

Turkey’s automotive production increased by 25.5 percent in May to 103 thousand 984 units. In the same month of last year, production was at the level of 82 thousand 862 units. Automobile production increased by 0.3 percent in May to 67 thousand 162 units.

In the same month, the automotive market increased by 18.6 percent to 68,220 and the automobile market increased by 20.0 percent to 51,750.

In January May period, total production decreased by 4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year to 513 thousand 887 units, and automobile production decreased by 16.2 percent to 296 thousand 362 units. Together with the production of tractors, the total production reached 534 thousand 87 units.

INCREASE IN COMMERCIAL VEHICLE PRODUCTION

In the first 5 months of the year, commercial vehicle production increased by 22 percent compared to the same period last year. In January-May period, production increased by 22 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle group, while production increased by 22 percent in the light commercial vehicle group. During this period, the production of commercial vehicles carrying freight and passengers amounted to 217 thousand 525, while the production of tractors decreased by 15 percent and amounted to 20 thousand 200 units.

TOTAL EXPORTS DECREASE BY 2.7 PERCENT

In January-May 2022 period, 380,372 vehicles were exported, of which 215,892 were cars, accounting for 74 percent of total production. This total figure was 3 percent less than the figure for the same period. last year. Tractor exports increased by 17 percent compared to 2021 and amounted to 7,290 units.

12.6 BILLION DOLLARS OF EXPORTS REALIZED

Based on data by Uludag Exporters’ Associations (UIB), total automotive exports in said period increased by 3 percent compared to last year and amounted to $ 12.6 billion. On a euro basis, it increased by 13 percent to 11.5 billion euros.

In January May period, total automotive industry exports ranked second in the sectoral export ranking with a share of 12.2 percent, according to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM).
