Turkey undoubtedly continues to experience serious difficulties. As noted by many experts, these include not only economics, but also issues such as rule of law and freedoms. Ali BABACAN, one of the former and important ministers of the AK Party currently in power, who has been challenging the ruling party with his newly established party called DEVA has made very interesting statements in reply to a question forwarded to him about “How Turkey could get on the right track, again”.

The question was, “Let’s say there was an election and you came to power? What would your economic plan be?

Ali BABACAN, the leader of DEVA Party (deva meaning remedy/cure) answered this question as follows:

“To start off with, it is necessary to seek the solution of economic problems in freedoms, fundamental rights, becoming a country with rule of law and a good functioning democracy. Just like you need to lay a robust foundation in order to erect an earthquake-resistant building, these are the foundations of a powerful/healthy economy. In other words, we are talking about having a rule of law and coming to an advanced point about rights and freedoms for a healthy functioning of the country and democracy.

And when the foundation is strong, it is necessary to build a solid economic program on it. For this purpose, it would be a priority to restore some seriously damaged state institutions, first of all, such as the Central Bank, the Treasury and the Banking Supervisory Authority etc. It would be of eseence to strengthen them again and make them independent. Immediately after that, we will make available a rule-based management, i.e., bringing predictability, more specifically a scenario in which a series of rules that explain which steps are to be taken together with medium and long-term roadmaps.

And to be most important we would definitely work with honest, experienced and competent staff.”

Our note: Now, when you read this statement, you think “There is not the slightest doubt that a huge country like Turkey will recover very rapidly, under the management of a qualified administration as defined by Ali BABACAN. This is to mean the hope of a MUCH BETTER Turkey has not disappeared anywhere. In fact, there is a light seen right at the end of the tunnel for those with eyes to see – thanks to democracy and free elections to come”.
