Balance of Power in Politics Seems to Be Shifting! Poll that AKP Headquarters Won’t Want to See

ORC Research shared the results of its Political Trends Survey, conducted between March 5-14, 2025. The survey reveals significant changes in key cities, with Istanbul and Ankara, previously under AKP’s control in the May 14 General Elections, shifting to CHP. Additionally, MHP falls below the electoral threshold in both Istanbul and Izmir.

According to the findings of the Political Trends Survey conducted by ORC Research between March 5-14, 2025, the following key points were revealed:

Istanbul Has Changed Hands In Istanbul, with 2,680 participants surveyed using the CATI (Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing) method, CHP emerged as the leading party with 33% support, while AKP was second with 30.4%. This shows a significant change from the May 2023 elections, where AKP had 36.06% of the votes, losing 6.02%. MHP fell below the electoral threshold with 5.3%.

Support for the DEM Party was 7.5%, Zafer Party had 5.1%, and YRP garnered 4.1%.

The Gap Widening in Ankara In Ankara, with 1,960 participants, the results indicated that AKP, which received 32.53% in the May 2023 elections, dropped to 29.1%, while CHP’s support increased from 30.56% to 34.8%, positioning it as the leading party in the capital.

Thus, just like Istanbul, Ankara also saw a shift in favor of CHP. The gap between the two major parties in Ankara grew to nearly 6%.

MHP’s support in Ankara was measured at 8.9%, while IYI Party, which had 12.8% in the 2023 elections, dropped to 6.2%, falling below the electoral threshold.

CHP Doubles the Lead Over AKP in Izmir In Izmir, with 1,710 participants, the survey found that CHP had 44% support, doubling the gap between itself and AKP, which stood at 22.8%.

The DEM Party’s support was 7.8%, while IYI Party received 7.5%. MHP fell below the threshold with just 4.2%.

AKP Dips, CHP Rises In Bursa, with 1,530 participants, AKP’s support dropped from 39.01% in the May 2023 elections to 34.5%, while CHP’s support increased from 24.38% to 29.1%.

MHP saw a slight decrease, dropping from 8.62% to 7.4%.

AKP Also Lost Support in Malatya In Malatya, with 1,320 participants, AKP’s support dropped from 45.19% to 36.4%, losing nearly 10%. On the other hand, CHP’s support increased from 21.6% to 26.2%.

MHP’s support fell from 12.92% to 9.3%.

This survey highlights the shifting political dynamics across Turkey, with AKP facing significant losses, especially in key cities, while CHP is gaining ground.
