Best locations for foreigners to settle in Turkey and Seferihisar, first Turkish citta-slow

Thanks to its beautiful weather and beaches, exquisite food culture, unparalleled nature and friendly people as well as affordable cost of living Turkey is almost unbeatable for foreigners who wish to settle in a different country. Indeed, while we used to have plenty of Germans with homes in Turkey earlier, we now observe many Brits and pensioners to be in the first place have been flocking to Turkey, in order to spend the rest of their lives in this beautiful country.

When we look to see which locations are of utmost preference for these people to settle, we find that spots such as Fethiye, Bodrum, Datça, Didim and Marmaris are mostly favored. It is no wonder our foreign friends are attracted to these places as they offer beautiful weather, sea and sun opportunities as well as a peaceful comfortable life. As one could see on the map these spots are rather down to the south west of Turkey. However, there is another alternative to this region which is called YARIMADA meaning peninsula in English. This refers to the peninsula in western Anatolia (Asian Turkey) where Izmir, one of major mega cities of Turkey and towns like Urla, Çeşme and SEFERIHISAR, Turkey’s first citta-slow are located.

Çeşme is no doubt among major holiday centers with a lot going on especially in summers. However some argue its far too packed and might not be very comfortable for those seeking a more peaceful/quiet environment.

Urla has almost everything to offer in terms of amenities, facilities, banks, shopping opportunities and goes without saying sun and sea. Moreover it has a great advantage of being within half an hour of driving distance to Izmir mega town. Therefore it could be a serious option for foreigners wishing to live in Turkey.

SEFERIHISAR on the other hand (although not as large as Urla) is much more compact and organized and in terms of blue-flag beaches and sun it has even more to offer than Urla does. Just to remind Seferihisar is the first citta-slow town of Turkey (thanks to the most valuable efforts of Mr. TUNÇ SOYER, the mayor) and also the capital of citta slow towns in Turkey now.

We need to mention that Mr. Soyer has literally upgraded Seferihisar from a town not many people knew in western Turkey, to a spot of attraction for tens of thousands of Turks who moved here from mega towns such as Istanbul and Ankara as well as newcomers from foreign countries who have started to settle down in this unique place.

The history of Seferihisar goes back to thousands of years ago and some of the most famous philosophers in ancient times as well as artists are known to have lived in this region.

The town is truly compact and rather organized with beautiful beaches at AKARCA vicinity 5 km south and AKKUM a few km to the west.  In case of need it is truly easy to have a comfortable drive to Izmir 40 km north, or take the minibuses running frequently.

As for property prices, one could buy a 120 square meter villa next to the sea, in a garden of 300 square meter for about 80 thousand US dollars.

People are rather friendly in Seferihisar and as for fun and activities there is so much going on especially in summers. SIGACIK which has recently been a prominent spot for holiday makers hosts many events in thee season to include drama plays, concerts, art exhibitions, seminars etc.

The bottom line is SEFERIHISAR is a true alternative for those foreign friends who would consider buying property and settling in Turkey.
