A long-anticipated legal decision has been made in the case concerning the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and its internal congress. The Ankara 42nd Civil Court of First Instance has officially rejected the lawsuit seeking to annul the 38th Ordinary Congress held in November 2023, putting an end to debates surrounding the party’s recent conventions.
Court Dismisses the Lawsuit
The case, filed by former Hatay Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş and several party delegates, alleged that votes had been bought through bribery and that there had been manipulation during the voting process in both the 38th Ordinary Congress (November 4–5, 2023) and the 21st Extraordinary Congress (April 6, 2025).
After months of legal proceedings, the fifth hearing was held today. Representatives from both sides, including CHP’s lawyers Çağlar Çağlayan and Mehmet Can Keysan and delegate lawyer Onur Yusuf Üregen, were present in court.
Court’s Final Decision
The Ankara 42nd Civil Court of First Instance ruled that there was no longer a valid subject of dispute, and therefore decided not to proceed with the case. This effectively ended any possibility of annulling the CHP congress or declaring it “absolutely null and void.”
With this verdict, the legitimacy of the CHP’s congresses has been legally reaffirmed, and the claims of irregularities have lost their judicial standing.
Political Implications
The ruling brings legal clarity to a period of internal party turbulence. For the CHP, the decision marks the end of uncertainty regarding its leadership and congress outcomes.
