The Supreme Council of Radio and Television (RTUK) has decided to ban broadcasting related to the explosion in Istanbul. The decision was taken upon the application of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The authority has banned news sharing about the incident in Istanbul, today. Therefore we cannot publsih concerned news.

Having said above, we see that several Turkish Newspapers (online) have already shared info about the incident.

However, we as BTT will be able to share concerned news if and when the authority LIFTS THE BAN.

EXPLOSION IN ISTIKLAL STREET

An explosion occurred on Istiklal Street in Beyoglu, Istanbul, the cause of which is unclear. While there was panic on the street, a large number of police, fire and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. It is stated that there are injured people.

Istiklal Streer is one of the shopping centers of Istanbul and most likely the busiest street in the mega town. It is said to have been badly crowded with foreigners from the ME and Arab countries for quite a while where as it was sort of a fashion street (even) of Istanbul in the past.

An explosion occurred on Istiklal Street in Beyoglu, Istanbul, the cause of which is unclear. There are reports of casualties and injuries.

There was panic on the crowded street after the explosion at 16.20, while a large number of police, fire and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. In the statement of Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya, it was written that there were casualties and injured people. The governor did not give a number.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu said “all relevant teams are in the region, we will provide healthy information,” adding “shares that may cause fear and panic should be avoided.”

AN EXPLANATION CAME FROM THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE

Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya said, “Today at 16.20 hours, an explosion occurred on Taksim Istiklal Street in our Beyoglu district. Our security, health, fire and AFAD teams have been dispatched to the scene. We have casualties and wounded. Developments will be shared with the public.”

UPDATE

Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya announced that 4 people lost their lives and 38 people were injured in the explosion in Taksim.
