Breaking Wildfire News: Tekirdağ Blaze Spreads to Çanakkale, Emergency Response Underway
A Night of Fire Across Turkey: On July 15th, Turkey experienced another wave of devastating wildfires, with multiple provinces battling fast-spreading blazes. Tekirdağ’s Şarköy district became the epicenter of a major fire that quickly grew in size due to strong winds, pushing flames dangerously close to residential areas. The fire didn’t stop there—it leapt across provincial lines and reached the Gelibolu district of Çanakkale, raising new alarms and prompting swift emergency action.
Fighting Fire by Air and Land
As daylight broke, firefighting crews resumed intense operations from both the air and ground. Four people were hospitalized after being affected by the smoke in Tekirdağ. Despite the challenging conditions, teams are doing everything they can to contain the spread and protect lives and homes.
Fires in Ayvacık and Mudurnu
In addition to the Tekirdağ–Çanakkale fire, blazes were also reported in Ayvacık, another district in Çanakkale, and in Mudurnu, Bolu. Thankfully, the fire in Mudurnu was brought under control, but the situation in other areas remains fluid and critical.
Teen Detained in Konya Fire Incident
In a separate incident, Konya’s Doğanhisar district faced a wildfire of its own. There, authorities have detained a 15-year-old shepherd who was reportedly grazing animals near the fire zone. Investigations are ongoing, as aerial and ground crews continue efforts to bring the flames under control.
A Country on High Alert
Turkey has been facing relentless wildfires for weeks, with July 15 marking yet another painful chapter. The combination of dry weather and strong winds is making containment especially difficult. Emergency teams remain on high alert as they battle the flames and work to prevent further damage.
