Card payments made over the Internet in Turkey break record in May

Card payments made on the Internet in Turkey in May have gone up to 8.5 billion Turkish Liras corresponding to an increase of 46 percent compared to the same month last year. According to the statement made by the Interbank Card Center (BKM), a total of 57.8 billion TL was paid last month by credit cards in May. This figure corresponds to an increase of 14 percent as compared to 50,9 billion TL card payment in May last year.

While 51,8 billion TL of card payments in May was made by credit cards, 6 billion TL was made by bank cards. Accordingly, the rate of growth compared to the same period of the previous year was 40 percent on bank card payments and 11 percent on credit card payments.

As the habit of “paying online” increased gradually, a record figure of 8,5 billion TL was observed in May based on data provided by BKM. This corresponds to an increase of 46 percent compared to May last year.

Compared to the same period of last year, 14 percent increase in the number of card payments, which grew faster than the internet, accounted for 15 percent of total card payments.
