CHP deputy asks the government: Are you going to impose a “breathing tax” too?

The government, which fails to implement its rhetoric of austerity in public administration, has again resorted to taxes and fees. Changes will be made to various taxes, from cryptocurrency investments to the exemption from SCT (Special Consumption Tax) on automobiles.

In an effort to pass the burden of high inflation and record budget deficits onto the public, the government is poised to rain down taxes and fees. In response to reports that the exit fee for traveling abroad, currently set at 150 TL, will be increased tenfold, CHP (Republican People’s Party) Antalya Deputy Aykut Kaya expressed his discontent by asking, “Are you going to impose a breathing tax too?”

CHP has submitted a second bill to abolish the exit fee. Speaking on the matter, Aykut Kaya stated, “Travel expenses have already skyrocketed. Is this belt-tightening always going to fall on the citizens?”

The CHP deputy went on to say, “If this continues, creative new taxes like a ‘breathing tax’ might emerge from the Treasury and Finance Minister’s endless tax package for households,” urging the planned increase to be removed from the agenda.
