Istanbul is home to centuries-old churches that host some of the city’s most breathtaking Christmas services. From candlelit carols to midnight Masses in multiple languages, both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day offer a deeply atmospheric spiritual experience for locals and visitors alike.

St. Anthony of Padua

Located on the bustling Istiklal Avenue, St. Anthony of Padua is Istanbul’s largest and most well-known Catholic church. It is also one of the most popular stops for visitors during the Christmas season.

(Dec 24) – On Christmas Eve, carols begin at 8:00 PM, followed by Mass at 9:00 PM. Christmas Day services take place at 10:00 AM in English, 11:30 AM in Polish and Italian, and 7:00 PM in Turkish.

St. Esprit Cathedral

Holy Spirit Cathedral, Istanbul

As the second-largest Roman Catholic church in the city, St. Esprit Cathedral holds a distinguished place in history, having been visited by four different Popes. Its Christmas celebrations are among the most solemn and internationally attended in Istanbul.

(Dec 24) On Christmas Eve, hymns begin at 11:15 PM, followed by a multilingual Midnight Mass. On Christmas Day, Mass is celebrated at 10:00 AM in English and at 11:30 AM in French.

St. Mary Draperis

Santa Maria Draperis Church

Just a short walk from St. Anthony’s, this historic church dates back to 1584 and offers a more intimate and reflective Christmas atmosphere.

(Dec 24) Christmas Eve Mass is held at 8:00 PM. On Christmas Day, services are conducted at 10:00 AM in Korean, 11:15 AM in English, and 6:30 PM in Spanish.

Crimean Memorial Church

Tucked away in the streets near Galata Tower, this elegant neo-Gothic Anglican church provides a serene setting for Christmas worship.

(Dec 24) On Christmas Eve, carols are sung at 11:00 AM, followed by a Mass at 8:00 PM. On Christmas Day, Mass takes place at 11:00 AM.
