AKBELEN FOREST PROTESTS

Watch duty of citizens in the Akbelen Forest against cutting of the trees for the coal mine planned to be built in IKIZKOY, Muğla is continuing on the 10th day.

One person was detained during the intervention with pepper spray and baton to those who wanted to enter the area where the barriers were expanded. Signal interrupters that block phone and internet access are being used in the area.

It is estimated that at least three-fifths of the trees in the forest have been cut down. According to YK Energy’s information note, it is expected that 2.5 million square meters of agricultural land and 3.7 million square meters of olive groves will be expropriated for coal.

“Life (nature) defenders” submitted an application to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Environment describing the situation. The CHP called the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly to an extraordinary meeting for Akbelen on August 8. Also, Victory Party leader Özdağ made a press statement in front of Limak Holding’s building in Ankara.
