MINIMUM WAGE MEETINGS IN TURKEY

The minimum wage negotiations are taking the final turn. The Ministry of Labor and Social Security is hosting the meeting between Confederation of Turkish Employers’ Unions (TISK) and workers’ Union (Türk-İş).

Minister of Labor and Social Security Bilgin, speaking at the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to discuss the ministry’s 2022 budget, said: “We will implement a serious minimum wage increase that will meet the expectations of society and workers. It will create a festive mood for low-income, minimum-wage workers.”

In reply to the question of an MP about when the minimum wage would be announced Minister Bilgin said, “You will find out on Monday”. “We will implement a minimum wage increase to meet expectations of society and workers”.

Bilgin said the following about the minimum wage: “I had research done, I asked the workers, I asked the employers, I asked the professionals. The vast majority of our workers, 37 percent, said they had an expectation of between TL 3,700 and TL 4,000. I have seen that workers working in small businesses demand a lower level. Not without reason. They said, ‘Yes, we want it to increase, but we want our employment to continue.”

“I don’t know what your expectations are, but we will implement a serious minimum wage increase that will meet the expectations of society and workers. It will create a festive mood for those who work with low-income minimum wage earners.”
