Death statistics by Turkstat provides reference to actual deaths from Covid-19 in Turkey

TURKSTAT of Turkey has announced the death statistics that it did not share for two years. Accordingly, while 435 thousand people lost their lives in 2019, deaths increased by 130 thousand with the pandemic. The TURKSTAT Death Statistic, which caused controversy because it had not been announced for two years, was announced yesterday. In the announced data, it was seen that the number of deaths, which was 426 thousand in 2018 and 435 thousand in 2019, increased to 507 thousand in 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic occurred, and to 565 thousand in 2021.

However, in 2020, the Ministry of Health had announced that 20 thousand 881 people had died due to coronavirus. In the TURKSTAT data, the number of Covid-19-related deaths in 2020 was listed as 22 thousand 136. When the age group was examined, it was seen that the most deaths were in the 65-74 age group. In 2021, the number of deaths increased by 11.4 percent to 565,594 people. The ministry announced the coronavirus-related deaths as 61,480 in the same year.
