Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan on Friday said that “the euro zone was the core of the crisis”.

Speaking at a meeting of the heads of state and government of the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in Serbian capital of Belgrade on Friday, Babacan said that they would continue to follow the impact of the crisis on south-east European countries.

“We will continue cooperation to bring economic stability and prosperity to regional countries aspiring to become EU members,” Babacan underlined.

“Southeast Europe in general has a healthy economy. Economic problems in certain regional countries may be overcome by facilitating new business opportunities,” Babacan noted.

“The cooperation within the SEECP process is crucial. The SEECP makes great contributions to economic development and cooperation in other fields,” Babacan indicated.

“It is important to develop cooperation with other international organizations in the region to boost economic relations,” Babacan stated.

Touching on cooperation in the cultural field, Babacan underlined that multi-culturalism was a value that should bring peoples together.

“The common aim of south-east European countries is EU membership,” Babacan said.

Ali Babacan met with the President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic as part of the Belgrade summit.
