DOCTORS IN TURKEY

Muğla Medical Chamber President Dr. Cafer Şahin has said that physician resignations are continuing intensively, especially from public hospitals in Milas, Bodrum and Marmaris and went on to say: “In the last year and a half, about 50 physicians in Muğla have resigned from their public positions.”

The appointment of a single specialist physician to hospitals has two important consequences besides patient density. The only specialist doctor is forced to keep an icap (emergency) duty (meaning he can be called to the hospital at any time) 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So, doctors who are tired of these endless tasks are resigning from their duties.

When the only specialist physician resigns, a new one is not appointed to replace him. The need for physicians is met by appointments from other hospitals. For example, a doctor is being assigned to Milas, which is 70-80 kilometers from the center of Mugla. In addition to emergency tasks and heavy patient burden, violence in health, low salaries, high rents (tourist attractions) and the cost of living, physicians are looking for a solution in retirement. Those who leave the public are transferred to private hospitals.
