Economy in Turkey: Istanbul Stock Market loses 435,429 investors and 520 billion TL in one day

Borsa Istanbul started the last week of the year with a sharp decline. Yesterday, efforts to recover were observed in the stock markets. Central Securities Depository data revealed that the total number of investors in the stock markets decreased by 435,429 people on Monday, December 25th compared to the closing on Friday, December 22nd The data also indicated a decrease of 520 billion liras in the total market value of equities.

While volatile movements continued in the stock markets due to the strengthening of alternative investment instruments to the stock exchange in the last quarter, the Christmas holiday of foreign investors made things difficult for the Borsa Istanbul in the last week of the year. The movements in the indices, which experienced heavy losses on the first trading day of the week, negatively affected both the number of investors and the market value of equities.

A one-day loss…

According to the Central Securities Depository data, while the number of investors in the stock markets was 8,486,149 on December 22nd, this figure dropped to 8,050,720 at the closing on Monday, December 25th. This indicates that 435,429 investors exited the stock market in one day. The market value of equities was 10.13 trillion liras on Friday, December 22nd, and it decreased to 9.61 trillion liras at the closing on Monday. This is an indication that the one-day loss reached 520 billion liras.

According to the Central Securities Depository data, the number of stock investors reached a record level of 8.56 million as of October 31st. While this figure decreased to 8.22 million at the end of November, it further dropped to 8.05 million as of December 22nd.
