Economy in Turkey: Last week’s stock market performance, top gainers and losers

Last week, despite the BIST 100 index in Borsa Istanbul generally starting the day positively, it only finished in the green on two days. Throughout the week, the index experienced a negative and mixed performance, ending the week with a 2.56% loss. The index was particularly impacted by the Israel-related Middle Eastern conflicts, as well as U.S. inflation data and domestic reports on Turkey’s balance of payments, unemployment, and industrial production.

Index Performance and Sector Impact

While the banking index finished the week with limited losses, the industrial index slowed due to economic data, recording a weekly loss of 2.20%. Among sectors, there were no weekly gains, and the sports sector saw the largest decline, falling by 6.98%.

Top Gainers of the Week

Among the BIST 100 stocks, Tekfen Holding (TKFEN) provided the highest return to investors, gaining 27.02% throughout the week. Otokar (OTKAR) followed with a 10.18% increase, and Oba Makarna (OBAMS) rose by 9.26%. These three stocks emerged as the top gainers of the week.

Top Losers of the Week

MLP Sağlık (MPARK) led the list of top losers on Borsa Istanbul, dropping by 16.58%. Beşiktaş Futbol Yatırımları (BJKAS) followed with a 12.77% decrease, while 1000 Yatırımlar Holding (BINHO) saw a 10.16% decline.
