Economy in Turkey: Resignation attempt from Treasury and Finance Minister SIMSEK?

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek “allegedly” handed in his resignation to Vice President Cevdet YILMAZ, but gave up when his requests were fulfilled. The Center for Combating Disinformation of the Directorate of Communications made a statement in regards, as well.

After the presidential elections concluded on May 28th, Mehmet Şimşek was appointed as the Minister of Treasury and Finance. Although Şimşek, who was appointed with high hopes to lead the economy, has not yet delivered as expected, he recently pointed to the year 2024.

As the economic crisis grows day by day, a new allegation regarding Şimşek has emerged. According to the claims, Şimşek submitted his resignation two weeks ago, but he withdrew his resignation when his demands were met. Journalist Recep Canpolat shared the information as ‘confirmed’ and it goes as follows:

“I am sharing an information that I have received and confirmed… there was a major crisis in Ankara two weeks ago. The Minister of Treasury and Finance @memetsimsek has given his resignation to the Deputy CB @_cevdetyilmaz … Mehmet Simsek’s resignation has been prevented by fulfilling his wishes in a panic… The economic team is nervous …”

“I am sharing information that I have received and confirmed… A major crisis was experienced in Ankara two weeks ago. The Minister of Treasury and Finance submitted his resignation to Vice President Cevdet YILMAZ… In a panicked state, by fulfilling his demands, SIMSEK’s resignation was prevented… The economic team is uneasy…”

In a statement issued by the Anti-Disinformation Center following was shared: “The claim that Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek has asked to resign from his post, is not true. Do not give credit to disinformation news that is deliberately circulated in order to create unease and distrust in the markets.”
