”Today will be critical,” one top official for Good (İyi) Party said, noting that they were not satisfied with the point reached on the joint candidate issue. The prominent name for the joint candidate of the nation alliance, which has been gathering to prepare for the 2023 elections for about a year and represents different voter groups, was CHP Chairman Kemal KILICDAROGLU.

However, following the ‘discontent’ messages from the IYI Party, party chair-person Meral Akşener is expected to make statements following the party meeting held today. IYI Party official, pointing to the other prominent names in the polls said, “Kılıçdaroğlu is a strong candidate, but other candidates should be possible to speak as well.”. As it is known, the Good Party does not look warmly at the candidacy of the CHP leader, who has had a lot of effort in this formation.

The Good Party official said: “Is it reasonable for every party to have a vice-president in the new formation? Let’s say that happened, can such a cabinet work easily? There will be meetings today…It’s better not to go into details at this stage. I can’t say that we are satisfied with the point we have reached. Today will be critical.”

Experts in politics and opinion leaders note if Good Party leaves the table because other 5 parties agree on candidacy of CHP leader, it would be a big blow to the opposition group and any party leaving the table would suffer serious negative impact in the political arena, after this hour.

What had happened?

A statement issued with the signatures of the six leaders after yesterday’s meeting of the Nation’s Alliance stated that a ‘common understanding had been reached’ on the issue of candidte, and that the final announcement would be made on March 6.
