FLIXBUS, a Germany-based company, acquired KAMIL KOC, one of Turkey’s leading bus companies, last August (in 2019). The company is known to be operating thousands of buses in Europe and the USA. It is reported that the company plans to change the rules of the game in Turkey’s inter-city bus operation.

The company is known to have grown by engulfing its competitors in the markets it operates. It seems that the company’s current operating logic will bring about a serious price competition in Turkey, as well. It is reported that FlixBus buses will have no service assistants, no seat numbers and no refreshments. Moreover, luggage will be loaded and unloaded by bus drivers.

Experts in the sector have commented as follows;

This system will not be practical and favorable for. Turkish passengers are real very sensitive about seat numbers. The passenger comes to buy a ticket. He or she wants a ticket by the window for instance and nice a treat during the journey. The service assistant is also important. Normally passengers are used to personnel handing out cakes, biscuits, Coke etc. on the bus. Especially without seat reservation, it will be a chaos. For example, there are passengers who buy tickets a day in advance for this reason. Somebody wants to sit in the single seat and somebody wants to sit in the front…etc.

The company would like to introduce the same system like on some flights to reduce cost but it does not seem very likely this practice could be successful.

This is what the experts think and all we have to do is wait and see.
