The fire, which broke out in a forested area in the Marmaris district of Muğla, is being intervened from the air and land. The smoke covering the sky can be seen from many points of the district center.

The fire started in the Yalancıboğaz forest area of Marmaris for a reason that has not yet been determined. The flames spread in a short time under the influence of the wind.

Precautions were also taken to prevent the fire from reaching the Aksaz Naval Base Command. A large number of personnel from the military region with water tankers, dozers, fire extinguishing vehicles were also assigned to respond to the fire. Police social incident response vehicles (TOMA) and Muğla Fire Brigade teams were also dispatched to the area. It was also seen that citizens carrying water tankers with tractors came to the region for fire extinguishing works.

1 PERSON WAS DETAINED

The fire was reportedly caused by embers near beehives. An 85-year-old man engaged in beekeeping was detained in the investigation into the forest fire.

Marmaris Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement that the forest fire in the Yalancibogaz Adaağzı locality was caused by 85-year-old M.Y., who was engaged in beekeeping in the region. The fire was reportedly caused by embers in front of the apiaries.

WE WERE COMPLETELY LEFT TO THE AIR INTERVENTION, BUT THE AIR CREWS WERE WITHDRAWN

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Osman Gürün, who said that there was no access to the fire zone for land intervention, used the following statements:

“Unfortunately, our situation at the moment, our air power will be gone from the moment it gets dark. Because helicopters and airplanes cannot fly at night. The bad thing is; because of the nature of the land, it could not be intervened from the land. We were completely left to the aerial intervention. If it goes down the road, there’s a chance it will come to the lodgings. We will try to prevent this from land.”
