Forest Fire in Seferihisar, İzmir Spreads to Residential Areas

The forest fire that broke out between Kuyucak Neighborhood in Menderes and Orhanlı Neighborhood in Seferihisar, İzmir, is still ongoing. Due to the fire, many homes in Seferihisar have been damaged and animals have perished.
The fire, which started for reasons yet unknown in the forested area between İzmir’s Menderes district (Kuyucak) and Seferihisar district (Orhanlı), continues to rage.
A large-scale response is underway, involving 18 planes, 10 helicopters, 40 fire trucks, 10 water supply vehicles, 4 bulldozers from the General Directorate of Forestry, as well as AFAD and municipal fire departments. The fire, fueled by strong winds, has spread to residential areas in Orhanlı Neighborhood of Seferihisar. Many homes have been damaged, and some have been completely engulfed by flames.
A local resident, Mehmet Güçlü, stated: “The houses are burning right now. The fire came from the other side — we didn’t notice. They’re trying to save chickens and dogs. Quite a few houses burned down. Some of our animals have died.”
