Former PM Davutoglu makes important statements about current politics in Turkey

"Share this post on social media, spread the news"

Ahmet Davutoglu, the leader of the Future Party has answered questions in an interview with the media. He said, “As an experienced politician, I have learned that you will not be sure of the rationality of politics. For Erdogan and this coalition, it is difficult to continue until 2023. Erdogan should be ready for any surprises from Bahçeli.”

Ahmet Davutoglu, the leader of the newly founded Future Party (and one time PM from AK Party), made critical remarks to a news agency at his party’s headquarters. Davutoglu touched on many issues, from developments in the Eastern Mediterranean to alliances in domestic politics.

Here are the highlights from Davutoglu’s remarks:

-From a rational point of view, it is difficult to make an early election today, legally, procedural and psychologically, because only the president can decide an early election. The president has a majority in parliament and has absolute power in his hands. Why would he risk such power when he has two or three years left? But as an experienced politician in Turkey, I have learned that you will not be sure of the rationality of politics.

-You should be ready for early elections in Turkey. Economically and psychologically, it is difficult for President Erdogan and this coalition to continue until 2023 because we know Bahçeli, he loves surprises… Erdogan must be ready for all kinds of surprises from Bahçeli.

-Unfortunately, our government is not performing properly with Greece. The EU should be told “let’s sit at the table and share all views”. We need to sit down and talk to each other. The opposite side’s mistake is to ignore Turkey’s strategic concerns. Our mistake is to explain our position without the necessary diplomatic effort to explain it to the other side. This psychological tension on both sides can lead to a blockage and a risky military encounter.

-A new strategic vision is needed for everyone to win. I’ve never seen an example in situations like this where one side wins and the other side loses. This is sort of a lose-lose situation in the eastern Mediterranean. Unfortunately, the European Union does not understand the basic strategic requirements of Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean. European leaders must understand that the Eastern Mediterranean is of vital strategic importance to Turkey. No one can corner Turkey, force Turkey to do anything, lock Turkey on land.
