Former UK Prime Minister David Cameron returns to active politics as Foreign Secretary

Former UK Prime Minister David Cameron has returned to active politics as the Foreign Secretary in Rishi Sunak’s cabinet, as part of a major reshuffle. His appointment to the vacant position follows Suella Braverman’s move to the Home Secretary role, replacing the controversial James Cleverley.

As an appointed lifetime member of the House of Lords, Cameron can take on the role of Foreign Secretary without being an elected member of parliament. He shared a lengthy post on social media regarding his acceptance of the position, emphasizing the importance of standing by allies, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring the country’s voice is heard in times of deep global change.

Cameron highlighted the crises in Ukraine and the Middle East, stating, “In this period of profound global change, standing by our allies, strengthening our partnerships, and ensuring our voice is heard has never been more important for this country.”

Despite being out of politics for the past seven years, Cameron expressed hope that his experience gained during eleven years as Conservative Party leader and six years as Prime Minister would assist the current Prime Minister in overcoming critical challenges.
