THY PILOT DIES DURING FLIGHT

During Turkish Airlines’ (THY) Seattle-Istanbul flight, Captain Pilot İlçehin Pehlivan passed away, and the aircraft was landed in New York by the second pilot and the co-pilot. The incident was reflected in the second pilot’s communication with Boston Air Traffic Control, where he stated, “We initially had three pilots, but we lost one of our captains.”

Recently, on the TK-204 flight from Seattle to Istanbul, operated by a Turkish Airlines Airbus A350 with tail registration TC-LGR, Captain Pilot Pehlivan suddenly collapsed mid-flight. A doctor on board made the first intervention in the cockpit.

Despite all efforts, 59-year-old İlçehin Pehlivan could not be saved and passed away. Following this, the second pilot contacted Boston Air Traffic Control to inform them of the situation and declared that they would be making an emergency landing at New York’s JFK Airport.

In his communication with the air traffic controller after Captain Pehlivan’s death, the second pilot said, “Right now, we have one captain pilot and one co-pilot on the plane. Initially, we had three pilots, but we lost one of our captains. We are now heading to John F. Kennedy Airport.” This communication was recorded.
