Heavy commercial vehicle market contracts by 63 percent in Turkey

Heavy commercial vehicle sales in Turkey have decreased by 63 percent to 1,381 units in the first quarter of the current year. It is reported that the sector expects recovery in the second half.

Based on data provided by Heavy Commercial Vehicles Association (TAID), heavy commercial vehicle market has contracted by 63 percent in the first quarter of the year.

In the January-March period, total sales in the market remained at 1,381. In the same period of last year, this figure was 3,821. In the first quarter, 481 tractor units and 922 trucks were sold.

Light commercial sales were 5,817 in the same period. This was a 51 percent decrease compared to the previous year while sales last year was 11,764.

However, Mr. Ilhami EKSIN, TAID President evaluating the data said they believed the market would recover. He said, “Both the exchange rate fluctuations as well as the local elections led to a postponement of demands. Now, there will not be an election, soon. Unless there are extraordinary developments in the market we believe the market will gradually grow starting second half of the year”.
