Heavy Downpours Hit the Aegean: Streets Flooded, Transport Disrupted

Izmir and Muğla Struggle Against Torrential Rain

The Aegean region was struck by intense rainfall after meteorology issued orange and yellow alerts. In Izmir, where 163 kilograms of rain fell per square meter, several streets turned into lakes. Overflowing manholes and rising water flooded homes, while muddy water flowing from creeks turned parts of the Izmir Bay completely brown.

Cesme Under Water as Sea and Land Merge

In Cesme, the sea practically merged with the land, flooding homes and businesses. Karaburun saw the heaviest rainfall with 154.5 kilograms per square meter, causing sudden floods across the district. Muğla was also overwhelmed by relentless rain, with the streets of Menteşe, Milas, Bodrum, Marmaris, and Fethiye submerged under water.

Storms Disrupt Sea Travel and Damage Boats

Menteşe experienced hail, adding to the chaos. Bodrum–Datça ferry services were cancelled in both directions due to unsafe conditions. In Marmaris, winds reaching up to 65 km per hour pushed three sailing boats onto the shore.
Rainfall also disrupted daily life in Balıkesir, Tekirdağ, Kırklareli, and Antalya, as the stormy weather spread across the region.
