Sabanci University invests 70 million TL in nano technology: Chairwoman of the Executive Board of Sabanci Holding, Guler Sabanci, said Monday that they invested 52 million Turkish liras (approx. 29.3 million USD) in the Nano Technology Center of the Sabanci University and that their investment in the center may reach 70 million TL (approx. 39.5 million USD).

ISTANBUL- Speaking to a group of journalists in Istanbul, Guler Sabanci said that Turkey needed products with high added values.

As the Sabanci University, we made use of the Turkish government’s support for research and development projects and established the Nano Technology Center, Sabanci said.

Our companies such as Sasa and Kordsa work with the Nano Technology Center of the Sabanci University. The polyester nano product produced by Kordsa Global was produced in cooperation with the Sabanci University, Guler Sabanci noted.

The Nano Technology Center is open to all interested. The center belongs to all of us, Sabanci added.

Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SU-NUM), is developed with approximately 25 million Euros provided by the State Planning Organization and Sabancı Foundation and became operational in July 2011. The Center provides valuable additional capabilities to the existing research infrastructure of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of Sabancı University. With a contributing team of 40 faculty members, about 40 post-doctoral researchers, and hundreds of Ph.D. students, the Center is engaged in highly effective multidisciplinary research programs, bringing together researchers with expertise spanning advanced materials, basic sciences, and nano-engineering, to address applications in electronics, photonics, healthcare, construction, the environment, agriculture and packaging industries.

Within the scope of this collaborative research environment, a major goal is to expedite the development of novel technologies and advanced products to address the needs of local and global technology leaders. The Center is encouraging collaboration with industry, other universities and research institutions to further hone the skills of budding research specialists, which are sought in several advanced technology areas relevant to the interests of Turkey.
