Is EU Taking Turkey for Granted?

"Share this post on social media, spread the news"

Turkey which is one of the shining stars in terms of economic performance and fastest development has been trying its best to stick to its commitments to the EU for accession to the block.

EU on the otherhand however has not been responding in the same constructive and most importantly “SINCERE” manner to prove that the group is ready to give Turkey a warm welcome.

Literally speaking, ANKARA has been facing roadblocks for sometime which in return has been putting of the Turks of the idea to be part of the EU.

Consequently, many people have started wondering if the EU has been taking Turkey for granted.

Turkey first launched a process for its future accession to the European Union in 1959. Unfortunately, this process has been moving at a snail’s pace mainly due to political difficulties originating from the Cyprus problem. When we consider that Turkey began negotiations in 2005 but has only been able to open 13 chapters, and close one, out of a total of 35, so far, it would be easy to verify the above comment.

The strange and unacceptable part is however,

Turkey has been experiencing difficulties no other candidates have ever suffered,” For instance, the community has shown far more tolerance to countries such as Romania and Bulgaria on their way to accession to the bloc.

Another very striking example would be the bloc has not kept promises made earlier or imposed harsh measures on Turkey such as visa restrictions on Turkish citizens while allowing the 193 million people of Brazil enjoy visa-free travel to EU.

Obviously, this kind of discriminating attitude could hardly be referred to as “FAIR”.

At that point one cannot help thinking,

“Is the EU trying to create every difficulty to keep Turkey out of the system or taking this very important country in Europe and the world for granted?”

Regardless of which reason this strange and unfair attitude stems from one thing EU should keep in mind is that “TURKS HAVE A VERY STRONG PRIDE and this awkward handling cannot possibly keep pending like this”. Moreover EU should also consider what it would do without a Turkey, among the most powerful countries in Europe both economically and politically, in the close future, should this country give up on the idea of becoming a member.
