Large crowds celebrate NOWRUZ in Diyarbakır, Turkey

A large crowd attended the Nowruz celebrations led by the HDP at the ‘Newroz Park’ in Diyarbakır. There were blockades at the entrances to the celebration area, while at some points there was a police intervention.

Those who came to the area where the celebration was to be held from the early morning entered the area without encountering obstacles in the early hours of the day. Later, the police blocked the entrances at the gates entering the celebration area and were met with a reaction.

Thousands of citizens who were waiting reacted by arguing that the entrances were deliberately blocked. After increasing tension in places, the police intervened in the mass with pepper spray and water cannon. Those who could not enter the area celebrated by lighting fires around them. Those who arrived in local clothes were not taken to the area.

European guests on the guest list were deported from the country, while guests from Middle Eastern countries were not taken to the area because they refused to provide a passport number.
