Mandatory as of January 1: Cameras to Be Installed at All Places Selling Alcohol and Cigarettes, in Istanbul

In Istanbul, businesses selling alcohol and cigarettes are required to install security cameras by January 1. According to the new regulation, cameras must be positioned to record sales areas, entry/exit points, and parking lots, and they must support facial recognition technology. The system will record continuously 24/7 and retain footage for at least 30 days. Businesses failing to comply with the requirement will face penalties.

To protect children from alcohol, cigarettes, and other harmful habits, the obligation to install camera systems in licensed businesses selling these products is being expanded.

According to a report by Türkiye Gazetesi, alcohol and cigarette retailers in Istanbul have been notified to install security cameras by January 1. These cameras must cover the sales areas, all entry and exit points, and any parking facilities from multiple angles.

Additionally, the system must be configured to support facial recognition technology.

PENALTIES FOR NON-COMPLIANCE

The required security cameras must have sufficient resolution, night vision capability to capture clear images in dark conditions, and the ability to record continuously 24/7. The footage must be archived for at least 30 days and should allow easy access with date and time stamps when needed.

Businesses failing to install the required camera systems will be penalized under the “non-compliance with orders” clause of the Misdemeanor Law.
