Mandatory Winter Tire Application Ends on April 1: Here are the Tire Change Fees
The mandatory winter tire application for intercity cargo and passenger vehicles will end on April 1. While it is compulsory for commercial vehicles, winter tires are also crucial for private vehicles to ensure safety during travel. The tire replacement fees are as follows:
- For 13 and 14-inch rims: 800 TL
- For 15 and 16-inch rims: 1,000 TL
- For 17-inch rims: 1,250 TL
- For 18-inch rims: 1,500 TL
- For 19-inch rims: 1,700 TL
- For 20 and 21-inch rims: 2,000 TL
According to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the requirement for vehicles used for passenger and cargo transportation to have winter tires is mandated under the Highway Traffic Law. The obligation is enforced based on the climate and weather conditions of the provinces and may apply for specific periods during the year. This authority may also be delegated to local governorships.
The inspection of vehicles is carried out by personnel authorized by the Ministry, as well as by teams from the General Directorate of Security, the General Command of Gendarmerie, the Ministry of Trade at border gates, and municipal inspection teams. Drivers who fail to comply with the regulations are fined administratively.
The mandatory winter tire requirement, which began on December 1, 2024, will end on Tuesday, April 1.
Winter Tires Lose Their Effectiveness in Summer
Winter tires are specially designed to perform optimally at temperatures below 7°C. However, they lose this ability when used during the summer months. In hot weather, the tires wear out more quickly, leading to early wear, performance loss, and other issues. Winter tires, designed for cold weather, cause a significant reduction in grip when used in summer, negatively impacting vehicle control and increasing fuel consumption.
Using tires that are not suited for the season also results in higher carbon emissions, which is harmful to the environment. By using the right tires for the season, environmental sustainability is also supported.
Tire Change Fees Start from 800 TL
Tire replacement fees are as follows:
- For 13 and 14-inch rims: 800 TL
- For 15 and 16-inch rims: 1,000 TL
- For 17-inch rims: 1,250 TL
- For 18-inch rims: 1,500 TL
- For 19-inch rims: 1,700 TL
- For 20 and 21-inch rims: 2,000 TL
The tire hotel service is provided at the same cost as the tire replacement fee for 4 tires.
