Meteorology Report for Turkey on May 18, 2025: Cooler Air in the North, Rainfall Expected Across the Country

METEOROLOGY-TURKEY

According to the latest forecast from the Turkish State Meteorological Service, cloud cover is increasing across the country. Thunderstorms and showers are expected especially in the Marmara Region, Northern Aegean, Black Sea Region, the northwest and eastern parts of Central Anatolia, the northern parts of Eastern Anatolia, and around Adana.

In some regions, rainfall may be locally intense, particularly in the southeastern Marmara and Western Black Sea.

Additionally, dust transport is expected in Eastern Mediterranean, Southeastern Anatolia, and Central Anatolia, which could negatively affect air quality and visibility. Caution is advised.

In short: Cooler weather is moving into the north, and rain will be widespread across the country. Better keep your umbrella close!

MARMARA REGION

  • Overview: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms across the region. Rain may be locally strong in the southeast.
  • Winds: Strong winds (40–60 km/h) from the south and west in the southeastern parts.
  • Istanbul: 18°C – Mostly cloudy, intermittent showers until evening
  • Balıkesir: 23°C – Very cloudy with scattered and locally heavy showers
  • Edirne: 22°C – Mostly cloudy, morning showers and thunderstorms

AEGEAN REGION

  • Overview: Partly to mostly cloudy. Localized showers and thunderstorms expected in northern parts.
  • Winds: Strong winds (40–60 km/h) from the south and west in inland areas.
  • Izmir: 26°C – Mostly cloudy, local showers in the morning
  • Denizli: 27°C – Mostly cloudy, afternoon showers in the northern parts
  • Muğla: 24°C – Partly to mostly cloudy

MEDITERRANEAN REGION

  • Overview: Partly cloudy in general, with increased cloudiness in the east. Showers and thunderstorms expected around Adana in the morning and Toros Mountains in the afternoon.
  • Winds: Strong southerly winds (40–60 km/h) in inland areas.
  • Adana: 28°C – Local morning thunderstorms
  • Antalya: 25°C – Partly cloudy
  • Hatay: 30°C – Partly cloudy

OTHER REGIONS (Summary)

  • Central Anatolia: Mostly cloudy. Showers expected in the northwest and east. Rain likely in Ankara and Eskişehir in the afternoon.
  • Black Sea Region: Intermittent showers and thunderstorms throughout. Rain may be locally strong in the Western Black Sea.
  • Eastern Anatolia: Showers in the north in the afternoon; clear and warm in the south.
  • Southeastern Anatolia: Partly cloudy and hot. Strong winds expected in the north. Temperatures may reach up to 35°C.

Be cautious of locally strong rainfall in Marmara, Western Black Sea, and Central Anatolia. Also, dust transport could lead to reduced visibility and air quality in some regions.
